The 6th annual Aurora Cup is coming up on January 18, 19 & 20th, 2019 at the Vaughan Athletic Center in Aurora, IL. The facility is 33,000 ft and features a non-slip grippy blue floor throughout. This year is expected to be bigger and better than ever with many tournament upgrades.
The tournament will feature JOOLA’s best competition tables – the JOOLA 3000SC and the JOOLA 2000S with full JOOLA barriered courts. The ball used is the JOOLA Prime Ball, a new sturdy ABS ball that’s been making the rounds at major tournaments this year.
Additionally, new LED lights were installed at the Vaughan Athletic Center in June and should provide might better visibility conditions. Tournament Director Swavek Lorenc even measured the space with a light meter and got readings between 460 and 848 lux with an average of 681 lux.
The tournament is now a full 3-day table tennis extravaganza with an additional event being added on Friday night. Lorenc explained, “This event is called ‘Tiered Round Robin’ (#1). The event will have 3 divisions and 2 rounds – Qualifying and Playoff. Both rounds will have a giant round robin format. All players who enter this event will be sorted from highest to lowest rated and divided into 3 divisions (A, B & C) . Each division will have a maximum of 36 spots divided into 6 groups of 6 players each. Maximum number of spots in this event is 36 x 3 = 108. Each group of 6 will have 2 tables to play on.”
