A little late, but definitely worth a look!
Drive at Downtown Detroit Festival
From June 22-24,2012 Drive, a new table tennis social club opening in Detroit, gave a glimpse of things to come. In preparation for its grand opening, Drive decided to hold a pop-up event at the Detroit River Days Festival, which draws over 150,000 people yearly.
During the three-day weekend, over 700 people played ping pong in Drive’s 600sf tent. With two professional-grade Joola tables, an iPong table tennis robot, matted flooring, and a live DJ, the tent was rockin’ the whole weekend! Sometimes the line to play was more than 15 minutes long, but people were willing to wait to get their chance to be the ping pong King or Queen. Later in the evening, crowds formed to watch and cheer on their favorite players.
Drive owner Diallo Smith, a Detroit native, has been working on opening this table tennis social club for two years now. “At Drive we infuse top notch quality table tennis products and play, with lots of fun, entertainment, and style. It’s definitely something Detroit needs and has been waiting for,” says Smith. Drive Table Tennis Social Club is scheduled to open in 2012 in the Detroit area.

Drive is off to a great start! What a fun way to introduce Detroiters to a wonderful sport — and to each other. There were tons of smiles and lots of laughter as folks played and watched at the Drive tent at our River Front Festival. I am excited to hear that Drive is going to open up an on-going venue in metro Detroit. I will be on hand when they launch (and will probably lose most of my games!) to welcome them into the area. Kudos to Drive!
