Team USA at the World Team Championships in Dortmund, Germany

From March 25 to April 1, 150 countries are competing in the World Team Championships in Dortmund, Germany.  The competition is fierce, but the US Team has shown a lot of potential this year and will be bringing one of the youngest and strongest collection of players in US table tennis history to the tables!

We are particularly excited about this tournament as it is the first for the 2012 US Team and they are looking particularly stylish in their JOOLA gear!

The US Women’s Team has been competing in Group A of the Championship Division with tough matches against Romania (1-3), Belarus (1-3), Ukraine, Hungary, and China.  Although they’re currently 0-2, the women have put up quite a fight with many close matches.  However, Lily Zhang (USA) has been the MVP so far for the team with two matches for the US.  The most impressive was a close five-gamer against Daniela Dodean of Romania (WR #47), while the second was a clean sweep against Alexandra Privalova of Belarus. Their next opponent is Hungary and we’ll be following!

In the men’s competition, the US Men’s Team is playing in Group J of the Third Division. Their group consists of teams from Lithuania, Ecuador, Qatar, Malaysia, and Montenegro.  The guys are 2-1 overall, with solid 3-0 wins against both Qatar and Malaysia, but a 2-3 heartbreaking loss against Ecuador.  They play Lithuania next, so be sure to cheer them on!

GOOD LUCK, TEAM USA!
